Had he just mentioned babies? Oh, that was going to be a treat if they did manage to get out of his case. Tina had no real issues with any of his creatures NOW but those mischievous critters could be hard work. Not that it was a time for any of them to worry about that. There were far greater issues at hand, most of them connected to young Credence. Someone Tina was desperately trying to find before Grindelwald took hold of him. His powers were too much for any dark Wizard to have on side. And, in her mind, he was just a scared boy who was desperate to find out his heritage. He needed a mother more than anything else.

She sighed ever so slightly, a smile almost tugging her lips with his comments about the Niffler babies but that soon faded as he continued to speak. Of course she had ceased with her letter writing but that had been her own way of HANDLING the things she had read in the article. He was getting married, he was moving on with the girl he had clearly had feelings for in school. What good did it do for Tina to remain attached? Perhaps a part of her was feeling guilt, especially as they could still be friends but she couldn’t control that hint of jealousy. It was childish and unwarranted.

“I wouldn’t call any of my life happiness, Newt. I’m trying to maintain a sense of normality after everything that has happened. I’m also trying not t’ get myself too involved with the RISKY moves my sister is making. She is determined to be with Jacob an’ I just don’t know what to tell her. He ain’t gonna be right for her, they’ll just end up being hurt in the long run an’ I can’t be there to watch that. Not when my attempts to convince her are going to deaf ears.”

Tina wanted Queenie to be happy, she wished that Jacob could be the one to give her that but it was not likely. Not while they were residing under the American laws. If Queenie was found remotely spending time with the no-maj she would risk punishment.

Fidgeting with her coat her eyes shot up to meet his when he spoke of the truth, that his brother was the one marrying Leta. “So you’re NOT getting married? There is so much going on, you can’t really blame me for assuming the press was talking the truth. You had a picture of her in your case, Queenie told me about the past she’d seen with the pair of yous. I just assumed that maybe you’d gone home and rekindled a LOVE … but I guess writing back to you would’a avoided any of this.”

Her hands were brought up to rub over her face, an element of relief washing over her but she knew it wouldn’t be simple to move on. She had made assumptions and gone silent on him, she’d even left Queenie behind. “Newt, I’m sorry that I made the wrong assumption. I just … I missed … writing just wasn’t the same as being around you. I felt uneasy ‘bout you getting married but deep down I just wanted y’ to be happy. I swear. I would’a wrote back eventually, just right now I need to find Credence. He’s out there an’ Grindelwald is searching for him, he’ll be an unstoppable threat if he finds the boy before us.”

Newt bites down onto his lower lip. Ill-amusement in his features even as he tries to hide it, fingers reflexively tightening and untightening his grip around his suitcase. He understands about Queenie, but it’s also– like her – not what he was told. Achille Tolliver, the name had burned into his mind when he started this trip. Tina would clearly be happier with a fellow auror, someone who lived the same blood she did– not him with his law breaking and oddities.

But it’s when she continues that his frown tugs more deeply onto his features. “With all due respect to your sister, Tina,” Newt started abruptly, “I can blame you for assuming. From what I’ve seen in those magazines– they were months ago. Instead of speaking to me you decided it must be true which, frankly, is madness and your sister spoke of things she did not understand. Yes, Leta was my closest friends. I cared very deeply before her and perhaps– perhaps– I loved her more than a younger me thought, but it was never–”

“–My intentions were always to come back to you, but I’ve seen how little you’ve trusted that,” He says finally, ducking his head, “And your sister has already told me about Mister Achilles Tolliver. So, yes, Tina… I don’t know what else I could have possibly done when you stopped returning my letters.” The words come out swiftly, all in a puff of ear, and he knows it’s neither romantic or helpful or anything else– But he was hurt because instead of simply trusting him, of writing him back and inquiring, she had listened to a silly newsprint and wrote him off. They were friends, at least, weren’t they? Or had he buggered that up as well? He was never very good at this attempt of dating.

The man swallows roughly, turning his attention to the ground. So she wanted him there and wouldn’t settle for writing? It’s confusing– they ha their own lives, books to publish missions to do, writing was the best they had at the time. He’d promised and– at least as of right now– he managed to keep it (doing so illegally just for her, but he wasn’t about to tell her that if she didn’t know). “Then we’ll have to keep looking,” He managed after a moment, “once we find him I’ll– Well, I’ll return to London and allow you to move on.” But his voice is quietly defiant on leaving then. He’d come to see her and help her, and he wasn’t going to leave no matter her opinion.
