“You’re allowed time to think about how you feel about this, Newt. This is life altering and it’s going to change a lot.” She told him. If she knew anything about raising children, it was that it changed absolutely everything about the parents’ life. Anyone who had children would tell her that she couldn’t understand how much love she was capable of feeling until she first saw that baby. Whilst that idea was exciting, it was also slightly terrifying.

She found her eyes watering slightly at the idea of some of their creatures leaving them. Tina always found it sad when they decided to return their creatures to the wild, because she knew how much Newt loved them. She loved them too. “I know that, you’re right. But it’s still sad.” She commented as she looked over at the Occamies. She felt his hand brush her cheek slightly and looked up at him.

Tina grimaced, realising she might have worded that better. “We give so much of our lives to this war, to matters of Grindelwald and Dumbledore, to larger things. We feel such a duty to do what’s right but our lives are important too, Newt, our family was always important even with just the two of us.” She explained, fiddling with her hair. “The life we have here might be quiet and some might consider it small compared to what’s going on out there, but that doesn’t mean we should put it aside.” She explained.

“And even though it’s unplanned and not quite convenient, that’s not the fault of this baby. All life is a blessing. Maybe it’s important to remember that in admittedly dark times.” She told him as she looked down at their hands as well. Her wedding and engagement rings glinted at her in the light, making her smile softly. “Newt, you call yourself ‘Mum’ on a regular basis. Maybe it might feel strange, but I think you’re more suited that you think.”

He frowns, mouth in a thin line. There’s no doubt he wouldn’t care for any child he came across or love them any less than a creature. No matter the circumstances he would have, a child wasn’t responsible for the cruelties of its parents (and that was not to say either of them were cruel). “It’s going to happen rather I think on it or not, Tina,” He reminded softly, brows etched together– So he’d rather simply do than think. He was always better at doing and observing. And he finds, when he thinks about it, he’s woefully unprepared when it comes to knowledge of a human baby in comparison to theirs.

The man makes a small sound non-committal in nature. Hazel eyes shifting over the clinic as he takes in each of the creatures. Mind whirring about hiring new assistants and moving some over to a different area of the grounds– But he’d made certain to buy a cottage with a large patch of land for expansion as it was. “Sad,” he agreed with a thoughtful sound, “but there’s no prouder moment, either.” Or terrifying, he thinks quietly, but it’s a bit like a parent– Caring for them until they’re on their feet and returning them to their homes. Hoping you never came across them again with the same problem.

It’s not that he doesn’t agree– He does. Newt had never wanted part of this war. He wanted to travel, to find Tina, and to work on his book. That’d been all he wanted when this started, but he hadn’t been a fool either. Sides had to be chosen, fighting and information gathered. Tina, wonderful Tina, had been an Auror and while not perhaps eager had accepted her position. He may not care for Aurors, but he knew she’d do the right thing. Same as himself, which was the only reason he now continued in his help of it. Practically the only reason he was allowed to travel was the Ministry’s knowledge he was and, more to the point, having Tina as his wife somehow coaxed them into thinking he was under their thumb (something that ruffled his feathers).

“I don’t think our lives will ever be anything quiet,” Newt mused in turn, a quiet laugh in his voice. “I’ve never doubted you were important even amongst this, quite the opposite, knowing you were there beside me– Well, it’s half the reason I can do as much.” He smiled at her fondly, his heart twinging. Neither of them would ever be the kind to sit on the sidelines and that’s what made this difficult– Would Tina, pregnant, be able to sit back if they caught word of Queenie somewhere out there? He’d seen war before, he knew what happened, and the idea made him inwardly shutter.

He keeps his mouth shut. “I’m well aware of the bright lights new life brings,” Newt added softly, watching her from the corner of his peripheral, “but I do also rather think that if I were the one called ‘mum’ even we would be looked at strangely, in this situation. That title will be solely your own this time, I’m afraid, love.”  His response is somewhat cheeky as it comes to its end, though the smile disappears and he quiets. Fingers twisting aroun hers as the other strokes a needy occamy’s beak.

It’s a long moment before he speaks. “You know if he requests my aid I may not be able to turn him away, yes?” A beat and he adds on softly, “If there’s another draft for a war I’ll be called.” It was like that during the first, him barely  seventeen called into the first. There was no ifs, war was coming and even the muggles were tense. He tries often to live with an idea of no worrying, but with matters like this– of an unknown future, a child, and war– well, it was impossible rather not to.
